Frequently Asked Questions
Do I need a MIDI controller to use this app?
No! While MIDI Volume Control is designed to work with MIDI controllers for hands-on volume control, you can also use the menu bar interface to adjust both system and Apple Music volume manually without any MIDI hardware.
How do I set up my MIDI controller?
It's easy! Just connect your MIDI controller, open MIDI Volume Control settings, click "MIDI Learn" next to the control you want to map, then move the knob, fader, or button on your controller. The app will automatically detect and map it.
Can I control system volume and Apple Music volume separately?
Yes! This is one of the key features. You can map different MIDI controls to system volume and Apple Music volume, allowing you to balance your music with other audio sources like Discord, Zoom calls, or system sounds independently.
Which MIDI controllers are compatible?
MIDI Volume Control works with virtually any MIDI controller that sends standard MIDI CC (Control Change) messages. This includes popular controllers like Akai MPK series, Novation Launchkey, Arturia KeyLab, and many others.
Does the app affect my Mac's performance or battery life?
No, MIDI Volume Control is designed to be lightweight and efficient. It runs quietly in the background with negligible impact on your Mac's performance or battery life, using minimal system resources and permissions.
What happens if I disconnect my MIDI controller?
The app continues to work! You can still access volume controls through the menu bar interface. When you reconnect your MIDI controller, it will be automatically detected and your previous mappings will be restored.
